3 Common Types of Collision Damage
Airport Paint & Body • April 17, 2019

Car accidents are more common than people realize. There's a good chance that every driver will be involved in an accident at some point. While the majority of accidents are negligible, such as fender benders, some are serious enough to require collision repair work. Here are three of the most common types of damage that result from vehicle collisions.

Common Collision Damage

1. Front Bumper

One-third of all collision repair jobs are done on the front bumper, and most of these repairs are the results of rear-end collisions. These accidents often happen when the driver behind you isn't paying attention, or when you slam your brakes suddenly to avoid hitting someone in front of your car. A hit can result in bumper damage, dents or paint scratch. Bumpers are explicitly designed to protect critical components in the vehicle's front, but even a small crack can quickly spread and become serious over time.

2. Headlights & Fenders

Headlights and fenders are two vehicle components that are often damaged during accidents. The headlights tend to be hit first since they're located on the vehicle’s front end. This area offers the least resistance in an impact, so it's not surprising that a collision repair would typically involve replacing them. Fenders, which are linked to headlights, are sturdier, but they’re still prone to damage from a side collision or when hitting objects such as garage doors or fences.

3. Wheels

Wheels account for a significant number of all auto damages since they're typically located in each of a vehicle’s four corners. They're also prone to hitting potholes, nails, and curbs, and they’re often exposed to dirt. However, most collision repairs involving tires only require fixing just one or two, rather than all four.
